A Forecast of Catastrophe

A Forecast of Catastrophe!

As Gordon Brown heads for Copenhagen, herewith is my Weather and Climate forecast all in one. Tomorrow or the next day, or next week, there will be a tornado in the Southern States of America. Over Great Britain there will be unusual precipitation in unexpected and in some expected areas, with flooding. Snow will fall earlier than usual in the Alps. Snow is already falling unusually early in the USA. There will be drought and dust storms in Australia, as the Murray River basin dries up.

In the Indonesian Archipelago there will be some large eruptions of volcanoes, causing tsunamis in directions completely unforeseen, but certainly due to Climate Change. The underwater volcanoes of the ring of fire will spew untold and immeasurable amounts of Carbon Dioxide into the air. Warm currents will contribute to the melting of the Arctic Ice Cap and Al Gore’s waterfront home will get flooded.

Some glaciers will advance and calving will take place, a spectacular sight for schoolchildren. A hungry polar bear will eat a research scientist on a mission to test the ice thickness. Unusually the Polar Bears have now started hunting in packs. Other glaciers will retreat where the air is drier and there is lack of precipitation. (Precipitation is rain, hail or snow – explanation for the likes of George Montbiot).

There will be days when the seas become rough with howling westerlies. The sun will mostly shine during the daytime, unless obscured by a think layer of clouds. The sun will not shine at night all because of the Earth’s rotation, though Gordon Brown will try to set that right at the Copenhagen conference. The nights will get colder in the Northern hemisphere as winter approaches. But Global Warming, if not interfered with, is almost guaranteed to produce a mild spell over Christmas, just when the kids would have liked some snow. Conditions in Canada around Mississauga will be particularly severe. Around Palm Springs the San Andreas Fault will open up by 7 centimetres, throwing Southern California and the Orange County into a frenzy of speculation.

As Gordon Brown heads for Copenhagen he warns of the imminent Catastrophe unless the great leaders of the world come to an agreement on Global Warming and the reduction of emissions. Whether he succeeds or not it is bound to be a Catastrophe.

What is his yardstick of success? What if Climate goes on changing? Heads he wins; tails he wins. Tails we all lose.

One thing is for sure – the Planet is never static.

This is the end of the Climate and Weather forecast by Nostradamus Bright-Paul, but don’t hold me to it! It will be changed tomorrow!
